COMPREHENSIVE LAND CLAIMS
Claims to land made by the Native peoples not covered by a treaty with Canada or the British crown. Comprehensive claims are most significant in the north and in British Columbia, two regions with few treaties. Since the establishment of the land claims process in 1974 some claims have been resolved in the north and the principles of a treaty with the Nisga'a in British Columbia was signed in 1996.
